When a Sprinter has trained for years and feels he/she's ready, he walks to the track and calmly lowers his/her body, stretches one leg as back as possible, recoils the other one, lowers his head and places his hands on the floor, resting them on the tip of his fingers.
It is amazing how far he/she has to place his/her body from the starting line. He/she has to go as back as possible in order to achieve the starting speed that would allow him/her to race against formidable opponents.
The same could be said of a country.
Our nation which has trained enough to have become for decades the runner to beat, constantly places itself at the starting line of the economic race. Yet, we seem to stand right at the edge of the line, sometimes we even step forward a bit.
But standing is the least effective posture, we have to stretch back. In other words, we should try to balance our deficit. We have to begin paying back instead of continuing borrowing, instead of standing at the starting line, we should go back to the reality that will reinvigorate our nation.
If we do, we will be able to regain the sprint needed to become fast again. But we postpone our doing so and what we know is needed. We will eventually race, but with a disadvantage, and will have to surrender the post of the country to beat to become the country catching up.
Now that the world in on a recession we should become realistic and we should suffer the pains of our reality. Lets not wait when the world is racing to start running with a heavy load on our shoulders. Lets lessen our load and become lean, athletic and with the right posture to spring again so we can look back once more and see the world trying to catch up with us.
